Fishing Report

April

April is finally here and the fishing has been phenomenal. Current Water Temperature is 50-53. As April progresses, fishing should continue to become even better. With the warming temperatures, striper will seek shallower water as shallow water will be warmer. Shallow water is the first to cool, and first to warm. So, with the progressive warming of spring, bait fish will move into shallower water, and the striper will follow. Stripers metabolisms are rising as the water warms, making them more aggressive and willing to eat. We will have a mix of tactics this month, with trolling with planer boards being our most common. some more tactics include; casting artificials, downlines, and bottom fishing. Just because fish have moved shallower doesn't mean sonar still isn't a big part of our game, towards the middle of the day, striper still tend to seek refuge in deeper water, making sonar very important. Even at prime time, sonar can still play a huge role. Towards the end of the month, the action will really heat up with the beginning of the alewife spawn. Alewife and blueback herring will swarm the banks to spawn, and this is a huge opportunity for striper to feed on these baits as they are vulnerable, making this a great and exciting time to fish. Both morning and afternoon trips this month have their potential. afternoon trips will probably be more oriented towards shallow water, as the water has warmed from the heat of the sun all day. We have been focusing on the creeks, and shallow areas on the lower part of the lake; however, this is a great time of year to be in the river system. Prime areas include; Indian creek, beaver dam creek, Grimes creek, stoney creek, Beckys and Bettys creek, Craddock creek, witcher creek, bull run, gills, and standiford. PRIME ARTIFICIALS; Berkley hitstick, Rapala F-18, zoom super fluke, and wake baits. GIVE US A CALL (540) 204-7146, OR BOOK ON THE RATES/BOOK PAGE.
